Megan K. Applewhite, MD MA FACS Assistant Professor of Surgery, John A. Balint Chair of Bioethics

Dr. Applewhite is an assistant professor of surgery and is the director of the Center for Bioethics Education and Research and John A. Balint Chair of Medical Ethics at Albany Medical College. She completed her general surgery residency at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, and her endocrine surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago. She also completed a fellowship in clinical medical ethics at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago. She now has a busy endocrine surgery practice at Albany Medical Center and spends half her time as the director of the ethics center, where her research has focused on thyroid cancer, surgical outcomes in the inmate population, and the surgeon-patient relationship. She lives in Albany with her husband and two children.
