Neuromodulation for Advanced Implantable Therapies: A Hands-On Cadaver Course for Neurosurgery Residents and Fellows
This event combines didactics on deep brain stimulation, laser ablation and responsive neurostimulation for epilepsy, spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, and intrathecal drug delivery systems, as well as other approved clinical applications of neuromodulation strategies, with practical hands-on training in a cadaver laboratory. The course targets neurosurgery residents and fellows in providing them with the opportunity to learn cutting-edge neuromodulation techniques and principles of implementation in clinical practice. Participants are under the direction of experienced faculty.
To be eligible to complete this application your specialty MUST be in Neurosurgery.
This is a highly competitive training opportunity. Workshop participants are selected by an application process. Registration and attendance at the NANS Annual Meeting is a requirement for participation in this workshop.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the principles of percutaneous and paddle SCS placement.
- Outline deep brain stimulation planning and implantation techniques with stereotactic frame application.
- Discuss laser ablation for hippocampal seizure focus planning and set up.
- Illustrate responsive neurostimulation lead placement and battery placement.
- Recognize new neuromodulation applications such as dorsal root ganglion stimulation techniques and sphenopalatine ganglion stimulation.
Participants are selected by an application process. Registration for the NANS Annual Meeting is mandatory in order to participate in the course.
Attendees of the Workshop will be Provided:
- Two night's stay (room and tax) on Wednesday, January 22 and Thursday, January 23 at the LINQ Resort and Casino
- Additional nights at the hotel for the 2020 NANS Annual Meeting will be at the resident's own expense (at a discounted hotel rate)
- Round-trip airfare (nonrefundable coach)
- Transportation between the Oquendo Center and the LINQ Resort and Casino
Registration Rates:
