The Neurology Neuromodulation Workshop offers PGY-3 and PGY-4 Neurology Residents didactic learning and a cadaver lab to study neuromodulation therapies, highlighting the role of the Neurologist in a multidisciplinary setting. Attendees train in the use of deep brain stimulation, intrathecal medication management for pain and spasticity, and neuromodulation for chronic pain. This workshop’s intent is to foster a platform for multidisciplinary networking opportunity and create excitement in the neuromodulation space through shared lectures and content with concomitant Pain Management, Neurosurgery, and Engineering workshops.
The Neurology Neuromodulation Workshop is designed for PGY-3 and PGY-4 Neurology Residents.
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify appropriate patient indications and selection criteria for use of spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, deep brain stimulation, and intrathecal drug delivery.
- Describe the mechanisms of implantable neuromodulation therapies.
- Define contraindications to implantable neuromodulation therapies.
- Describe measures and methods to identify, limit, and manage biologic, technical, and hardware-related complications of implantable neuromodulation therapies.
- Discuss management and dosing of intrathecal drugs and delivery methods.
Workshop participants are selected by an application process. Registration and attendance at the NANS Annual Meeting is a requirement for participation in this workshop.
Attendees of the Workshop will be Provided:
- Two night's stay (room and tax) on Wednesday, January 16 and Thursday, January 17 at the LINQ Resort and Casino
- Additional nights at the hotel for the 2019 NANS Annual Meeting will be at the resident's own expense (at a discounted hotel rate)
- Round-trip airfare (nonrefundable coach)
- Transportation between the Oquendo Center and the LINQ Resort and Casino
