Patricio Riva Posse is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University. He earned his Medical Doctor degree from the Universidad de Buenos Aires. He initially trained as a neurologist in Argentina at the 'Instituto de Investigaciones Neurológicas- Dr. Raúl Carrea - FLENI', prior to moving in 2008 to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia to specialize in Psychiatry. Since 2012 he is in the faculty as Assistant Professor. He is Medical Director of the Treatment-Resistant Depression Clinic in the Emory Clinic, supervising the evaluation and treatment of severe and complex mood disorders with advanced psychopharmacology, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), and experimental treatments like ketamine infusions and deep brain stimulation (DBS). Dr. Riva-Posse is the director of the Deep Brain Stimulation for Depression program at Emory University. His research at Emory is focused on the neurobiology and treatment of mood disorders, primarily treatment-resistant depression. Current methodologies include neuroimaging and focal neuromodulation techniques such as deep brain stimulation.
